Ian Bakker

Ian joined the University of Michigan Solar Car Team in the fall of 2022. The undergraduate in electrical engineering designed and built the battery for the 2023 vehicle, Astrum, which he would drive across the Australian Outback in the 2023 World Solar Challenge. With this experience, he would go on to become the Crew Chief and Systems Engineering Lead for the 2025 World Solar Challenge, coordinating vehicle architecture decisions and organizing a wider group of student engineers to develop a safe and swift solar electric vehicle.
